There are many reasons to get a flu shot every year, and even more reasons this year. If you still need a flu shot Johnson County Community Health has scheduled three flu shot clinics this November.

So what's the benefit to getting a flu shot? According to the CDC being vaccinated against the flu can prevent you from getting the flu. It can reduce the risk of you needing to be hospitalized for a flu associated reason. If you have chronic health conditions like heart problems, diabetes or lung issues it can lower your risk of a cardiac event or hospitalization. It can cut the rate of a respiratory infection in pregnant women by fifty percent. Your flu vaccination can protect others for being infected. And if you do catch the flu, it can reduce the flu symptoms you experience.

With COVID-19 present this year getting your flu shot, as previously mentioned, will reduce the chances your hospitalized for flu related reasons. This will allow healthcare resources to be used by those who need those resources to fight COVID-19 and keep our healthcare system from being overwhelmed.

If you need to get a flu shot this season, Johnson County Community Health is offering three flu shot clinics. Anyone interested is welcome to stop by during the clinic without an appointment. Flu shots are free to those who qualify. And those with insurance are asked to bring their cards and JoCo Community Health will bill your insurance company. According to their Facebook post, "Anyone who does not have insurance will still receive a flu vaccine with no out-of-pocket cost."
