Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood and Dozens of Stars Grieve Joey Feek’s Death
News of Joey Feek's death spread quickly throughout the country music community, and stars like Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood and more took to Twitter to express sadness and send prayers and well-wishes to her family.
Paisley and Brandy Clark called Feek's battle with cancer "inspiring," while several others assured fans Heaven has an angel. Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum says she's a better mother and wife because of Joey Feek. Meghan Linsey recalls the shows her duo Steel Magnolia played with Joey + Rory. The married couple even lent Linsey and her partner their tour bus on occasion.
Tributes extended beyond Twitter. Chris Janson took a moment during his show in Nashville to pay tribute to Joey Feek. The singer died after a long battle with cancer on Friday (March 4), leaving behind husband Rory and their 2-year-old daughter, as well as hundreds of close friends and family members.
Feek's fight intensified during her final months. She ended medical treatment but fought to live through mid-February to see the Grammys, the release of the couple's hymns album and Indiana's second birthday. Shortly after that day (Feb. 17), Rory revealed that his wife had told him she was sick of fighting, and after a round of goodbyes and a kiss to baby Indiana, she slipped away to sleep.
