The State Fair Community College (SFCC) men’s cross country team took five of the top six individual places to claim the third consecutive Region 16 Division II Championship for the team on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Crowder Cross Country Course in Neosho.

Sophomore Justin Horn, Hermitage, took the individual championship for SFCC. Horn covered the 8K course in a time of 28:09.3. Sophomore Josh Schaffart, Dearborn, Missouri, finished second with a time of 29:03.6. Sophomore Jess Cornick, Mason City, Iowa, placed third in a time of 29:45.2. Freshman Adam Broekemeier, Edwardsville, Illinois, finished fifth with a time of 31:38.6. Sophomore Mario Nunez, Belton, placed sixth in a time of 34:02.5.

Horn, Schaffart and Cornick swept the All-Region honors for SFCC.

“The course was rough but flat and the athletes could really get out and race,” said Head Coach Brad Hagedorn. “Our men are still fighting some injuries but, they showed up when it mattered. Each doing their part for our team success. Justin, Josh, and Jess poured it on late and carried the day. We look forward to traveling to Richmond for our Nationals in two weeks.”
