Pettis County Sheriff’s Reports for June 18, 2024

On the night of June 14th, Pettis County Deputies conducted a subject check on US 50 Highway just west of 12th Street. The subject, identified as Jimmy W. Torres, 64, of Sedalia, was confirmed to have an active Pettis County Warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued in May 2024 after an incident in February of 2024. At the time, Officers were dispatched to an alley near West 6th Street and South Missouri Avenue to assist with a traffic stop. A subject had been stopped for a signal violation, and the Officers felt the driver might be intoxicated. The driver staggered out of the vehicle as he stepped out. He also said his name was “Julio Gonzalez”, and he denied taking any drugs or drinking anything. After a series of field sobriety tests, Officers did not feel it was safe for Torres to continue (as he might fall). After an oral swab, Torres tested positively for stimulants, amphetamines, and cannabis. At present, Torres has been booked in at the Pettis County Jail pending felony charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Persistent Offender)* and felony Driving While Revoked. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Monday night, Pettis County Deputies were on patrol in the area of South Kentucky Avenue and West 14th Street. Deputies witnessed a blue colored van with expired plates, showing an expiry year of 2023. In an attempt to make contact with the van, Deputies continued northbound on Kentucky Avenue and witnessed the van continue westbound on West 14th street from South Kentucky Avenue. Deputies quickly turned-on West 12th Street and then went to South Moniteau and witness the van turn on to West 15th Street from South Moniteau Avenue. Deputies drove to West 15th and South Moniteau Avenue. Deputies saw the van stop and a taller white male exited the passenger side of the van. He then walked south through an alley. Deputies drove to South Vermont Avenue, and then eastbound on Magnolia Avenue. They then met with the white male subject they witnessed exiting the van. After checking the subject’s information with JCOMM, they advised the male did have an active warrant through the Sedalia PD. Brock James Howe, 22, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest. Howe was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on his three Failure to Appear warrants on original charges of Expired Plates, No Proof of Insurance, and Operating a Motor Vehicle On the Highway Without a Valid License. Total bond was set at $209.00 cash only, and the new court date is set for July.

*In the Casenet file 24PT-CR00795, the probable cause statement notes Torres has four prior convictions of Driving While Intoxicated and nineteen prior convictions of Driving While Revoked or Driving While Suspended.
