Pertle Springs Lake in Warrensburg will close temporarily starting Monday, December 16, 2024, for dam maintenance.

The University of Central Missouri Facilities, Planning, and Operations department is temporarily closing Pertle Springs Lake to conduct essential maintenance on the dam outflow. The Department says the dam requires immediate replacement to ensure the long-term stability of the lake and surrounding areas.

As part of the repair process, the lake's water level will be lowered 4 - 5 feet, which will expose significant areas of mudflats, which are unstable and present potential safety hazards, which is why access to the lake will be restricted until the project's completion which is estimated for late January 2025.

Additionally, fishing will be prohibited during maintenance to protect the lake's ecosystem. This precaution is intended to minimize stress on the fish population.

In a release, project manager Paul Day says, "We appreciate the public's understanding and cooperation as we undertake this vital project to persevere Pertle Springs Lake for the benefit of future generations."
