Mo Valley Students Model Latest Fashion Trends on Campus

The first annual Missouri Valley College Alumni Association Fashion Show was held at the Malcom Center Sunday afternoon in Marshall.

The models were full-time MVC students, and were also dancers, athletes and cheerleaders. There were close to two dozen boutiques that supplied the clothing for the models. The boutique also sold their wares after the show in the gymnasium.

Katie Shannon, show organizer and president of the MVC Alumni Association, spoke with KSIS after the fashion show.

“It went fantastic, I couldn't be more thrilled. The students showed up, the public showed up, the surrounding communities showed up, all to embrace these new fashion trends, show support for our students and just really come together as a community, a college, and overall, just something positive,” Shannon said, “so it was great.”

The boutiques arrived in Marshall from all over Missouri, including Kansas City, St. Louis, Glasgow, Fayette, Boonville and Sedalia.

In addition, artwork created by MVC students were on display and for sale as well.

Proceeds from the event will go to student activities on campus throughout the year, noted Shannon, who was very modelesque herself, wearing a dress featuring MVC colors orange and purple.

Shannon predicted there will be a second annual event for sure. “It's looking that way, people had a lot of fun at this one, they like to get dressed up on a Sunday afternoon. You couldn't ask for better, with a relaxing day of shopping,” she said, adding that Marshall doesn't have any boutiques of its own.

Shannon looked at the fashion show as a great way to showcase the campus and the community on a day with perfect weather.

During the show, which was moderated by Shannon, each model's photo was flashed on the monitors, along with a list of their major area of study, extra curricular activities and their hometown.

Main sponsors for the fashion show were the Marshall Chamber of Commerce and the Marshall Tourism Commission. Fashion assistants were the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce, Simply Realty and the Chad and Ellen Lance Family.
