JoCo Crash Kills Two, Injures Three
A two-car collision in Johnson County killed two people and injured three others on Monday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 16-year-old male from Warrensburg was the driver of an eastbound 2018 Chevy Silverado on US 50 at Business 50, when he fell asleep at the wheel and traveled off the right side of the roadway around 12:50 p.m.
The Chevy then reentered the roadway and crossed Business 50. The Silverado became airborne and impacted a northbound 2022 Acura RDX, driven by 83-year-old Patricia L. Moffett of Overland Park, Kansas. The Acura was sitting stationary at the intersection.
Both vehicles traveled off the east side of the roadway where the Acura impacted a road sign.
Patricia Moffett and her passenger, 55-year-old Derek B. Moffett, of Erie Colorado, died at the scene. Their bodies were transported to the Johnson County Coroner's Office.
Two more passengers in the Acura, 19-year-old Alexandria B. Moffett and a 16-year-old girl, both from Erie Colorado, suffered serious injuries and were Life Flighted to Research Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the Silverado suffered minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to Western Missouri Medical Center. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report.
Both vehicles were totaled and towed by Warrensburg Tow.
Warrensburg Police, Johnson County Deputies and JCAD assisted the six Troopers on scene.
