Holden Teen Killed, Five Others Injured in Jackson County Crash
A Jackson County crash involving two vehicles killed a Holden teen, and injured five other people Tuesday night.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a southbound 2022 Honda HR-V, driven by 18-year-old Preston A. McCarty of Holden, and a southbound 2008 Chevy Cobalt, driven by 19-year-old Nathanael L. Jankura, also of Holden were on US highway 50 at Milton Thompson Road around 9 p.m., when both vehicles failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
Both vehicles struck the highway median and both vehicles became airborne.
The Chevy then overturned, ejecting one passenger, and landed on its top.
The Honda struck the roadway, coming to rest on its wheels after striking the 15-year-old male ejected passenger in the south outer road median.
The 15-year-old boy from Holden who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, died and the body was taken to the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office.
Jankura suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Lee's Summit Fire to Centerpoint Hospital.
McCarty suffered minor injuries and was transported by Southern Jackson County Fire to Research Hospital.
19-year-old Mercadez J. Baker of Holden suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Southern Jackson County Fire to Research Hospital.
Two 17-year-olds, one male and one female, both from Holden, suffered moderate injuries and were transported by Lee's Summit Fire to Centerpoint Hospital.
19-year-old Nathanael Jankura was later arrested by the Patrol at 11:20 p.m. He now faces a felony charge of driving while intoxicated by drugs involving the death of another, careless and imprudent driving resulting in a crash, and no seat belt.
