Romantic Getaways In Missouri: Check These 2 Towns Out!
Sometimes, you need to get away from it all with your partner. You need to reconnect, relax, and rejuvenate your mind and body, and maybe up your romance game too. According to Dan and Michelle's Honeymoon Always website readers, you don't have to leave Missouri to do it!
The couple, who are travel experts when it comes to booking honeymoons and couples getaways, surveyed 3,000 couples to find out which lesser-known romantic destinations they'd like to visit this year.
The top five destinations include St. Augustine, Florida; Paia, Hawaii; Hilo, Hawaii; Ashville, North Carolina; and the town Clint Eastwood made famous first by staring in "Play Misty For Me," and later as mayor, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
Their blog details the top five destinations but then lists the other 170 destinations that made their list without going into any details. So, what lesser-known romantic destinations in Missouri made their list? At number 41 is Ste. Genevieve, and at 124 is Hermann.
According to Viststegen.com, Ste. Genevieve is Missouri's oldest permanent European settlement. The remarkable preservation of the original colonial settlement contributes to the village's charm and ambiance.
There is no shortage of accommodations, including vacation rentals, hotels, inns, and bed and breakfasts. Those who prefer camping or RVing also have options. There's also no shortage of shops, wineries, and art and antique shops.
If you're worried that there's nothing to do, that couldn't be further from the truth. The town hosts various fairs and festivals throughout the year. It has several museums focused on art and French Colonial Life. Visitstegen.com can give you a good overview of whether or not this would be a romantic getaway you'd like.
According to Wikipedia, Hermann was founded by the German Settlement Society of Philadelphia in 1837 and has been described as a Rhineland village. Hermann could be your romantic destination if you're a fan of wine country and wine on the Missouri River.
Like Ste. Genevieve, there's no shortage of accommodations. The Visit Hermann website boasts that the town offers over 650 guest rooms, from luxury accommodations to cozy cottages. Hermann can also accommodate those who prefer to camp or RV.
There's no shortage of things to do, as many restaurants, pubs, and wineries feature live music, and there are a variety of festivals throughout the year. What Hermann is best known for, though, is its wineries with tasting rooms that serve locally produced wines made from varietals ideally suited to grow in Missouri. There's also a restaurant for everyone's tastes, as well as a variety of historical sites, buildings, and museums to check out.
Shopping runs the gamut from antique stores, boutiques, jewelry, homemade crafts, and antiques. That doesn't even get into gourmet foods, snacks, and other goodies that you might want to take home.
The bottom line is that I don't know if Hermann or Ste. Genevieve is for everyone. It's probably not for the couple who wants to experience the big city. Those folks are probably better off checking into a swanky Kansas City or St. Louis hotel, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Yet, for the couple looking to disconnect a bit, the couple looking to get away from the hustle of daily life and interested in just poking around a historic town and taking in what these towns offer, either destination could be the perfect getaway.
