The Sedalia Police Department asks residents to give their mail carriers a break this holiday season by ensuring their dogs are secured.

In a Facebook post, the Sedalia Police Department says that during the holidays, mail carriers deliver cards, letters, and presents as early as 6:00 AM and as late as 7:00 PM. They then say, "Our carriers need your help! Unrestrained or aggressive dogs can make their jobs more difficult and, at times, even dangerous."

The post asks all Sedalia dog owners to keep their pets secured on a leash, in a yard, or indoors. It also asks owners to be mindful of their pets' behavior during mail delivery times and around mail carriers.

They also warn that if a dog chases, bites, runs at large, or acts aggressively towards a mail carrier, Sedalia Police or Animal Control may take action against the pet owner.
