Alleged Car Thief Caught Thanks To Facebook
Earlier this afternoon, the Benton County Sheriff's Office issued a short press release stating that law enforcement was looking for an individual who attempted to steal a truck from 34154 Highway 65. Thanks to the release being posted on the Facebook page of the Benton County MO Sheriff's Office, the person was apprehended.
At approximately 3:15 PM CDT, the Benton County Sheriff's Office asked the public to be on the lookout for the individual pictured in this story. At that time, the Benton County Sheriff's Office asked for assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Conservation Officers, and Pettis County Detectives to help Benton County Deputies find the individual because it was believed he would be looking to steal another vehicle. In addition to officers from the above agencies, police used a drone and a K9 in their search.
In a follow-up post on the Benton County Mo Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the Sheriff's Office says the wanted individual was taken into custody after a minor scuffle. Neither deputies nor the individual were injured in the apprehension. According to the Sheriff, a citizen who watches the Benton County Mo Sheriff's Office Facebook page helped bring this person into police custody.
The Sheriff's Office thanked all the agencies that came out and helped, including the Pettis County Sheriff's Office.
