If you have fond memories of shopping at Toys 'R' Us as a kid and were sad to see them close years ago, you'll be glad to know that the beloved chain has just opened a new Illinois store, but it's not the same as the Toys 'R' Us you grew up with.

I saw NBC Chicago share the news of the return of Toys 'R' Us to Illinois with a new store located at 4104 North Harlem Avenue in Norridge, Illinois. WGN News had video of the ribbon cutting and spoke with some customers for this Toys 'R' Us that doesn't look like the same store you likely remember from 30 years ago.

If you're too young to remember what Toys 'R' Us used to be like back in the 1980's and 1990's, it was a huge warehouse-like building with wall-to-wall toys and video games.

It makes sense with the onset of online shopping that Toys 'R' Us would attempt something more compact and to the point. The days when brick and mortar toy stores like they used to be has come and gone along with the decline of shopping malls. If nothing else, it's great for a nostalgic brand to still have a presence and let's hope this new Illinois store can find lasting success unlike the stores of years ago.
