They used to be huge metal containers that brought tires to America from China. Now they're the foundation and walls for a Missouri family's home that resulted in them ending up on national television to explain how and why they did it.

Zack and Brie Smithey of St. Charles were featured on CBS Sunday Morning not that long ago after they created a beautiful home that had a non-beautiful beginning.

Yahoo News also featured an article about this St. Charles, Missouri family. In the feature above shared by CBS Sunday Morning, Zach explained that he now consults other families who want a shipping container home of their own. He said it's not as easy as it looks as electric and plumbing can be a challenge in a home like this, but he's proved it can be done and made to look spectacular.

Perhaps shipping containers will be a way for families to be able to own a custom-built home by making a generic shipping container into something special.
