45-Year-Old Cold Case Finally Connected to Illinois Serial Killer
It doesn't bring justice to the victim or the killer, but it's better to know than not to. A 45-year-old Illinois cold case has finally been connected to a serial killer thanks to new technology.
NBC News just shared a video on YouTube which talks about the closure that a family in Illinois now has thanks to DNA technology. It regards the 1979 murder of Kathy Halle who was found by a boy fishing. After extensive DNA testing, police in North Aurora, Illinois now know for certain that it was serial killer Bruce Lindahl.
The technique involved something called M-Vac which is able to extract DNA evidence even beneath the surface of evidence.
The DNA found on Kathy Halle was connected to Bruce Lindahl after his body was exhumed and tested. Police say that the evidence and certainty of the DNA testing would have been sufficient to charge him with first-degree murder. As Wikipedia confirms, Bruce Lindahl killed himself on April 4, 1981 while committing another murder in Illinois. His final victim resisted his attack causing him to accidentally stab himself in his femoral artery which took his life, too.
While the family of Kathy Halle has some sense of closure knowing who her killer was, others argue that Bruce Lindahl escaped justice. I disagree. I believe he's receiving his ultimate justice right now which is far worse than anything he ever did to his victims. Justice always is eventually done - one way or another.
