I could make an argument that this is the one statistic that all cities should be judged by. What's more important than the livability of an area? There's one Missouri metro that was just ranked as one of America's best places to live and it's nearly at the top of the list.

Rent Cafe just shared a new 2026 list of the most livable metros in America and it's a deep dive into what makes places great. According to their methodology, they looked at 149 American cities and then measured them using 17 different categories including cost of living, healthcare access and community feel. With all of those numbers crunched, Kansas City, Missouri was ranked as the 3rd most livable city in America.

Why was Kansas City, Missouri ranked among the most livable metros in the nation?

The ranking said that Kansas City's surprise appearance at #3 was "fueled by affordability, tech buzz and an active social scene". No mention of the Kansas City Chiefs? Well, they did have an off-year.

Kansas City isn't without its problems, but the KC Police say that overall the city saw a decrease in crime. Improvement even on a bad thing is good, right? Nothing makes a city more unlivable than when your safety is constantly in question. The ranking is good news for the Midwest overall as 6 of the top 20 most livable metros were in this region.
