When it comes to driving, I value the opinion of truck drivers more than I value my own. Let's face it. They see these highways and byways more often than I do so they would know which ones are better than others. A new ranking says they think 2 Missouri highways are among the top 10 in America.

A little backstory first. My father-in-law was an over-the-road truck driver for decades. He drove a lot locally in Iowa, Missouri and Illinois, but also across the country to California, too. There was a brief period in my life where I thought I might want to be a truck driver, then I fortunately realized I had no talent. My point is that I have a heart for truck drivers and the roads they travel.

I saw trucking industry site Fleet Owner share some pretty detailed scores on interstates that truckers think are the best and the worst. Two interstates that cut across Missouri were among the best.

  • I-44 was ranked as the 3rd best interstate with a trucker score of 92.72
  • I-70 was ranked as the 6th best interstate with a trucker score of 92.08

These two Missouri interstates were favorable due to what they describe as "parking availability, truck stop ratings, and fuel prices". Interesting.

I was surprised to see I-70 especially rated so highly as the last time I traversed it potholes were a major problem. Perhaps there's been repair work done to lessen that issue, but particularly between Columbia and Kansas City, it's a tire repair paradise waiting to happen.

Back to my original point though. I'll defer to what truck drivers say is a good road versus what I think anytime.
