Missouri Patrol Offers Reward in 41-Year-Old Cold Case

A Missouri man's deceased body was found abandoned on a rural road in the summer of 1985 under suspicious circumstances and now police are offering up to a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is asking for your help in solving the murder of William "Bill" Sundermeyer, 68, of Rolla. He was last seen on June 8, 1985 and his deceased body was found on June 10, 1985. They believe he left his rural Phelps County, Missouri home with someone he knew and trusted. Bill was a WWII veteran who raised 5 children with his wife. For more than four decades, they have had no closure knowing what happened to Bill and who is responsible.

"Sundermeyer was 68 years old at the time of his death; however, there is evidence and/or circumstances regarding this case which make it suspicious in nature,” said Sergeant Bradley R. Germann (Q/DDCC). “We believe there are individuals who know details about the incident and what happened to Sundermeyer. We ask those individuals who know more about the incident to contact investigators. The Sundermeyer family deserve to know what happened to their father and grandfather. I believe this case can be solved with the help from the community”.

The reward poster shared by the Missouri State Highway Patrol says there is a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and an additional $5,000 for information that leads to a conviction of whoever took the life of Bill Sundermeyer. There is also a website that has been set up called Sundermeyer Info with even more details of Bill's life and the circumstances that ended it.
