This Odd Missouri Castle Isn’t a Castle at All – It’s a Mausoleum
If you drive by what looks like a small castle in Missouri, if it's the building I think it is, it's not a castle at all. It's really a century-old mausoleum.
Does this building in Holden, Missouri look familiar to you?
This is the Miller Mausoleum that is along highway 131 just north of Holden, Missouri. Missouri Preservation says that this building is the vision of Joseph Miller who had it constructed between 1915 and 1918. They say he was a Biblical scholar who wanted a tomb similar to those he read about in scripture. The story says that there are 18 Millers entombed inside this mausoleum.
A few years ago, a paranormal investigation was allowed inside of the Miller Mausoleum to see what lies within.
The Miller Family has an official Facebook page for the mausoleum and it appears they're making it available as a destination for October 31 activities. If you do decide to do so, keep in mind the mausoleum is private property and you need permission to do so. While it is one of the more popular Missouri roadside attractions due to its uniqueness, it's also the final resting place for many Miller family members.
