U-Haul’s #1 KC Mover? It’s Not Who You Expect
If you had to guess what state has residents that move to Kansas City the most, which would you say? If you gave me 50 chances, I probably still wouldn't get it right based on new data just shared by U-Haul.
I find these annual migration data reports from U-Haul interesting. What company would know better about who's moving where than them? They include a multitude of metro areas, but I zeroed in on what they had to say about who's moving to Kansas City and #1 blew me away. Here are the top 10 states that have residents leaving to make a new home in Kansas City:
- Texas
- Colorado
- Oklahoma
- Iowa
- Nebraska
- Florida
- Illinois
- Arkansas
- Tennessee
- Arizona
I have so many questions. First of all, how is Texas #1?! The national narrative is that Texas is one of the top states people are moving to and not from. Second question. How is Kansas NOT in the top 10? I thought it was practically a state requirement if you grew up in Kansas to move to Kansas City at least once in your lifetime. Guess not. #2 is also a surprise to me. No offense intended, Kansas City, but why would anyone with the beautiful mountain views leave Colorado for the Midwest? Let me guess that it's housing and cost of living issues.
Go figure that Texas would be the number one state for incoming Kansas City residents. Perhaps they've decided to live where the football team is good for a change.
