How do you feel about winter? Do you miss the cold temperatures and tons of snow? If not, you're in my camp, but Farmer's Almanac is warning those of us in Missouri that a warm January is not good news.

The "Old" Farmer's Almanac (not to be confused with the new one that ceased publication late last year) shared this fun fact on their social media places today.

This is one of their old-school weather proverbs. The belief in the olden days was that a warm January like the one that Missouri has experienced for the first half of the month leads to a cold temperature return as late as May. That would not be a popular thing. Here's another one. The Old Farmer's Almanac says "when there is enough blue sky to patch a Dutchman’s breeches, expect clearing weather". Good news for Dutchmen and the rest of us, too.

But wait, there's a change coming

According to the National Weather Service, Missouri will start seeing colder temperatures between now and the end of January. With highs only in the 30's today, I'd argue that cold snap is already here. Riddle me this, Old Farmer's Almanac. If Missouri has a warm first half of January, but a bitterly cold second half, what does that mean? I think we can go back to the usual way of predicting Missouri weather which is the flip of a coin.
