Sometimes being the oldest of anything has its good points, and that's the case for the oldest school in Missouri.

St. Louis University High School

Not only is this high school the oldest in the Show-Me State, but it's also the oldest secondary educational institution west of the Mississippi River. Until I saw this today, I had no idea that this high school existed.

Why should I, it's located in St. Louis. St. Louis Univeristy High School opened in 1818 and is still in use today. Family Minded looked at all 50 states to determine the oldest school in each state. This is an all-boys private school in St. Louis and one of the largest private high schools in Missouri. It is located in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Founded by Bishop Dubourg, the bishop of St. Louis in the early 1800s, the private Jesuit Catholic high school was originally known as St. Louis Academy.

Since the school's opening in 1818, it has seen five location changes and has adapted to the needs of young men attending the school. The school now is located close to the Science Center so you probably drive by it heading to a ballgame or downtown St. Louis and don't even realize the importance of that building.

The school's website doesn't say how much it costs per year and I am sure there are scholarships to try and help with cost, but in looking into everything the school offers I am sure it's not cheap. Whatever the case is, it's still cool to have one of the oldest schools in America just 2-hours away from the Tri-States.
