There are levels to playing golf. Your personal level of skill, which honestly can be a roller-coaster ride, and the level of the course you play. When it comes to courses to test yourself on, you want a challenge. Many times, the golf courses that will give you the stiffest test will be at golf clubs or country clubs. You can’t just schedule a tee time at many of these courses, you need to be a member. True, you can reach out to the pro-shop at private courses to find out if there are any stay-and-play opportunities. You could also join a friend who is a member to get access to those courses. At a public course, anyone can book a tee time.

In Missouri, the best public course is Payne’s Valley at Big Cedar Lodge in Hollister. Designed by Tiger Woods' firm, and named for the late Springfield, Missouri golf great Payne Stewart.

This is currently the only public course created by TGR designs by Tiger Woods. Challenge yourself, and play some creative holes that will test your skill at Missouri’s finest public course.  And don’t miss the 19th hole, “The Big Rock”.
