Shaboozey Just Edged Out a Carrie Underwood Chart Record

Shaboozey's hit song "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" is once again on top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart, for a seventh straight week. This milestone is huge on its own, but it's also enough to dethrone country queen Carrie Underwood for a chart record she set in 2006.

Billboard reports the seven weeks at No. 1 on the chart is officially "the longest-leading hit to establish a country career." In other words, Shaboozey has sat in the top position longer than any other artist with their first charting track. It's his first title to appear on the chart.

Back in 2006, Underwood's debut on the Country Airplay list was with her song "Jesus Take the Wheel." The song remained a No. 1 for six weeks, which was a record at the time.

What makes Shaboozey's chart-topper so special is that it's his debut single and the one that put him on the map in country music. It's also unique to hold that top position for as long as he has.

Since the chart's debut in 1990, only 11 songs total have been a No. 1 for that many weeks or longer. Most recently, Nate Smith's "World on Fire" and Morgan Wallen's "You Proof" each had 10 weeks on top of the chart.

Shaboozey's 2024 CMA Awards Nominations

It has truly been a landmark year for Shaboozey, and the accolades continue to pour in. The country newcomer received his first CMA nods for this year's awards show. Not only is "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" up for Single of the Year, he also received a nod for New Artist of the Year.

The 2024 CMA Awards are set for Wednesday, Nov. 20, on ABC.
