You've no doubt been told at some point in your life that ignorance of the law is no excuse. That's never more true than the time of year we're approaching when it's vital to remember the 100 foot law in Missouri is in effect and not abiding by it can have bad consequences.

I've never been much of a hunter, but I come from a family that has done plenty of it over the years in Missouri. It's through them that I know that you need to understand the concept of how to interpret the 100 foot law in Missouri and what to watch for.

I'm no lawyer and I won't try to be one now, but I will point you to a website called The Law which explains what the 100 foot law in Missouri is all about. It states that property owners must mark their property properly with lines that are "a minimum of 8 inches long and between 3 and 5 feet above the ground". The property markings in Missouri must also not be separated by more than 100 feet. There you have the Missouri 100 foot law.

This is very important as we approach hunting season as Missouri hunters know to watch for no trespassing signs and/or property markings. In Missouri, signs aren't necessary if you'd prefer to just mark your property with purple paint. If you're hunting and you come upon a tree or fence with purple paint, that's your clue to head the other direction otherwise you're breaking trespassing laws.
