Sedalia Fire Department crews responded to a house fire at 1926 East 16th Street at 7:47 a.m. Wednesday.

The first truck on scene at 7:49 a.m., and reported heavy smoke pushing from the roof eaves with visible fire present.

Sedalia Police and PCAD also responded to the scene.

Crews made an interior primary search of the residence and were able to recover three animals. Unfortunately, two of those pets perished.

Crews then made a quick knockdown of the fire.

Fire was under control within 15 minutes of first arrival.

Evergy arrived on scene and cut the power to the residence.

Fire crews had the fire completely extinguished, and an investigation was under way. Fire crews were clear of the scene by 10:15 a.m.

The fire has been ruled accidental in nature, but no direct cause of the fire can be determined, Chief Matt Irwin said.
