Healthy U is hosting Sedalia’s 5th annual “Bike to Work Week” now through May 19.

“Biking to work encourages people to include physical activity into their daily routines,” said Melissa Boeschen, community outreach coordinator at Bothwell Regional Health Center and the chairperson of the Healthy Living Action Group in Sedalia. “It’s our hope that some people who participate in Bike to Work Week will continue to ride their bikes throughout the year.”

According to a press release from Bothwell Regional Health Center, bicycle commuters are encouraged to take a photo with their bike outside their workplace and post it on the “Healthy U” Facebook page.

'Bike to Work Week' will conclude on Friday, May 19, when members of the Healthy Living Action Group, armed with a variety of prizes including gift cards, cycling accessories, and Healthy U items, will visit participants who have posted to the page, according to the press release..

In conjunction with 'Bike to Work Week,' the Healthy Living Action Group will kick off its monthly “Moving 101” initiative on Thursday, May 18, with “All About Bikes” from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Katy Trail shelter on Clarendon Road.

Ebby Norman, owner of Pro-Velo, will provide tips on basic bicycle safety and proper bicycle maintenance. The presentation will we followed by a group trail ride, walk, jog or run.

Healthy U is a project of the Healthy Living Action Group, which includes Bothwell Regional Health Center, Katy Trail Community Health, Pettis County Health Center, Boys and Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri, and University of Missouri Extension.
