George Strait Named Live Legend in 2018 Golden Mic Awards
The "King of Country," George Strait, is the winner of the Live Legend honor in The Boot's fan-voted 2018 Golden Mic Awards. With nearly 40 percent of the votes in the poll, Strait led legendary performers including Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire and Brooks and Dunn, Alan Jackson and more in a tight competition. Shania Twain was Strait's runner-up, with nearly 20 percent of the votes in her favor.
While Strait announced his decision to stop touring, as well as his final The Cowboy Rides Away Tour, in September of 2012 and played his "final show" in 2014, he isn't taking this whole "retirement" thing too seriously.
In 2016, the country icon returned to the stage with a run of shows at the then-brand-new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Dubbed Strait to Vegas, the King's residency kicked off with a handful of shows at the venue, but later expanded to include additional dates in 2017 due to fan demand, proving his staying power as a performing legend. Strait will finish out 2018 with two shows at T-Mobile Arena in December; they will include Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen as special guests.
We're betting he's not done in Las Vegas, though ... and he's already announced that, in 2019, he'll play at RodeoHouston. Although he's only performing a few times each year, Strait continues to draw sold-out audiences as one of country music's most beloved live performers.
