George Strait Extends Las Vegas Residency Into 2019
George Strait only has two more dates on his Las Vegas residency in 2018, but he has announced his plans to extend Strait to Vegas into the new year.
King George will return to Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena for two shows on February 1 and 2. Joining him for the February 2019 shows will be special guest Ashley McBryde, who is currently headlining her own Girl Going Nowhere Tour.
Strait began his wildly successful run in Las Vegas in 2016, playing six shows that year and following it up with 10 more in 2017. He hasn't tired of it yet, apparently. Tickets for Strait's 2019 Vegas shows will go on sale Oct. 19 at 10AM local time via StraittoVegas.com.

The announcement of new shows is bittersweet, however, as Strait will head to the stage for these shows without his longtime drummer Mike Kennedy by his side. Kennedy was killed in a car accident in Tennessee in August, when his 1999 GMC struck a tractor-trailer as it merged into another lane.
"Hard to put into words how much Mike's passing has affected us all," Strait wrote on his Instagram page shortly after Kennedy’s death. "Our hearts are broken. It’s going to be very strange not being able to look over and see him there in his spot on stage and very emotional as well I’m sure for all of us and also his fans. The band will never be the same. A part of us is gone forever. We all loved Mike and will miss him terribly. He was just as solid a friend to us all as he was a drummer, and that was damn solid. Our hearts and prayers are with his family. The Lord has him now. Rest in Peace my friend."
