Out of six service awards listed on Monday night's City Council agenda, only one recipient showed up to accept his award, and that was Firefighter/Driver/Engineer Christopher Maggert with the Sedalia Fire Department.

SFD Chief Matt Irwin presented Maggert with a certificate honoring Maggert's 10 years of service with the City of Sedalia, and Maggert then shook hands with every Council member, Mayor Andrew Dawson, City Administrator Kelvin Shaw and City staff sitting on the dais.

Chief Irwin said Maggert was promoted to driver one year ago,

“Although Driver Maggert and myself don't always see eye to eye, he is always a great help, and works through issues in resolving them,” Irwin said, adding that Maggert has a number of state certifications to his credit, such as Fire Inspection II, Structure II and Fire Officer II.

“In 2015, then firefighter Maggert was issued a meritorious service award for a search and ultimate recovery of a fire victim at great risk to his own well-being,” Irwin said. “I look forward to working with Driver Maggert for the next 10 years.”
