Final Roster Changes for the Cardinals and Royals 2021 Season
I hope you're as excited as I am going into the season for the Cardinals and the Royals. After being denied the opportunity to go to games in 2020, this will be a definite item on the ol' bucket list for 2021.
Another year and new hopes are abound for the upcoming 2021 Major League Baseball season for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals.
St. Louis announced some final roster changes as they sent six players down to the minors and four going on the injured list. Those going on the injured list includes pitchers Dakota Hudson (right elbow), Kwang Hyun Kim (back) and Miles Mikolas (right shoulder), and outfielder Harrison Bader (right forearm) on the 10-day injured list.
The Cardinals' 26-man opening day roster will include 1st baseman/outfielder John Nogowski, infielder Edmundo Sosa, outfielders Austin Dean and Justin Williams, and pitcher Jake Woodford.
Kansas City made a few changes as they get ready for Thursday's home opener against the Texas Rangers. According to Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Whit Merrifield will be the opening day starter at second base as infielder Nicky Lopez had been optioned to Triple-A Omaha.
In another move KC has selected the contract of right-hander Wade Davis. Davis signs a deal for $1.25 million guaranteed. Davis had signed a deal back in January hoping to make the Royals' opening day roster.
So the Royals start off the 2021 season at home against the Rangers for a three-game series, April 1st, 3rd and 4th. Then KC hits the road for a five-game series with stops at American Central Division teams Cleveland and Chicago.
St. Louis starts off the season on the road as they play this Thursday in Cincinnati with two more games over the weekend in Cincy. Then it's on to Miami for a three-game stop against the Marlins. The home opener for the Cardinals is scheduled for Thursday, April 8 against the Milwaukee Brewers.
