Expect Slowdowns and Delays on Highway 50 Through Knob Noster

The Missouri Department of Transportation has started work on rehabilitating the Highway 50 westbound bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad near Knob Noster according to a new post from the Knob Noster Fire Department.

MoDOT will be replacing the bridge deck on the westbound bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad. According to the Knob Noster Fire Department post, the project is about a mile east of Missouri Route 23 and a half mile west of Route D in Knob Noster.

During construction, westbound traffic on Highway 50 will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and westbound traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes during the construction period after median crossovers have been constructed.

For safety, Highway 50 in Kob Noster will be closed.  Also, the median will be closed on the north side of Highway 50 just to the east of the bridge. Businesses at this location will be restricted to right in / right out movement according to the Facebook post.

MoDOT had planned to do this construction work over the summer, however, work just got underway on October 30, 2023, and there is no estimated completion date. The bridge carries approximately 7,000 vehicles a day.

The replacement of the bridge decking will extend the life of the bridge which was built in 1956. Information on the project from MoDOT can be found here.
