Sedalia Symphony to Celebrate 90 years of Performing

The Sedalia Symphony Orchestra is celebrating 90 years of performances with their fall concert on Monday. Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Jerrode March will conduct the orchestra at the Heckart Performing Arts Center on the Smith-Cotton campus, 2010 Tiger Pride Blvd.
One of the featured pieces will be the “Egmont Overture” by Ludwig von Beethoven. The overture was played at the symphony's very first concert in 1935.
Special guest will be percussionist Dr. Sam Stokes.
Guest artist Dr. Samuel Stokes, originally from Sedalia, is a 1998 Smith-Cotton High School graduate.
He has a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition/Arranging and a Master of Arts in Music Composition from the University of Central Missouri. He also holds a Master of Music Theory from The Florida State University, and a PhD in Music Composition from Louisiana State University.
The Symphony has commissioned Dr. Stokes to write an original composition for mallets and orchestra that will premiere at the fall concert.
Tickets for the fall concert are $35 each.
