Dierks Bentley Shares New Song ‘Hold the Light’ From ‘Only the Brave’ Movie [Listen]
Dierks Bentley has released a poignant ballad titled "Hold the Light," which is appearing in a new movie called Only the Brave. The song was written and recorded especially for the film, and it’s an emotional tribute to those who sacrifice themselves for others.
Only the Brave is about a group of firefighters dubbed the Granite Mountain Hotshots, elite firefighters specially trained to go into intense wildfire situations. They took on the massive Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013 in Arizona, the sixth-deadliest firefighter disaster in U.S. history. Only one of the 20 firefighters survived.
“Hold the Light” features Bon Iver’s S. Carey and was written by Bentley along with Carey, Jon Randall and the movie’s composer, Joe Trapanese. Bentley was deeply involved with the process and says it’s one of the most impactful songs he’s written.
"This is at the top, if not the most meaningful experience I’ve ever been a part of," Bentley states in a press release. "It hits me harder than any other song I’ve had a chance to be a part of. Over the last couple years I’ve met and gotten to know Brendan, the sole survivor, and my mom has met with some of the guys’ families, and it’s still unfathomable to put yourself in any of their shoes. But, our goal was to create a message of hope and love. I’m honored to have been a part of it."
An Arizona native, Bentley has been invested in the story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots and supporting their families and loved ones since 2013. The artist was one of the first people to raise money for the cause, holding a show called the Country Cares Concert, which raised more than half a million dollars for the families of the Hotshots.
