Motorists should notice much smoother traffic flow on the westbound I-70 Bridge near 18th St. in Kansas City, Mo., by this Friday, March 4.

Crews will begin working to remove the temporary concrete barriers from 9 a.m. until 3 pm, Friday, March 4. During this time, several of the westbound I-70 lanes will be closed while crews remove the barriers. This work will help to reopen the center lane.

The Missouri Department of Transportation closed part of the bridge Thursday, Jan. 13., after an early morning fire underneath led to severe bridge damage, primarily under the center lane. All work is weather dependent.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
