Crews have blocked off South Ohio Avenue between 2nd Street and southbound to Gazebo Park in downtown Sedalia in preparation to demolish several buildings damaged by a fire on Dec. 14, 2012.  The demolitions comes at the recommendation of an engineer who deemed the buildings unstable and dangerous.

Businesses located at the demolition site include Sedalia Sign Crafters, Sedalia Hypnosis Center and Let's Dance Ballroom.  Business owners were notified over the weekend that they must vacate the premise in order for the demolition to take place.  Bids for the demolition will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 8 according to Sedalia Mayor Elaine Horn.

The buildings that were destroyed in the December blaze in historic downtown Sedalia were built over 100 years ago.  The fire had started in the thrift shop at 208 S. Ohio and has damaged the “A Touch of Whimsey” shop next door 210 S. Ohio St.  The businesses in that location had only used that building for only several months.
