A 26-year-old Sedalia man has been sentenced to 30 years in the Department of Corrections for first degree sodomy.

Travis J. Clunie was sentenced February 8. He was convicted on the charge in December. Pettis County Prosecuting Attorney Phillip Sawyer alleged and argued that on an unknown date between January and March of 2016, Clunie had subjected another individual to a deviate sexual act through forcible compulsion.

Sentencing for Clunie was originally scheduled for January 27, but was delayed when defense counsel requested a continuance to present evidence pertaining to a Motion for New Trial that had been filed. After hearing evidence on the request for a new trial, the Court overruled the defendant's motion and proceeded to sentencing.

Clunie was also arrested in a separate case on April 29 in which he is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl. The girl alleged Clunie had sex with her twice after youth group meetings at a local church. Sawyer says that a trial date in that case is to be set on the next Law Day, scheduled for February 21.
