The City of Sedalia issued the following statement on Monday:

The maintenance crew will start cleaning the cemeteries on Monday, July 20, 2020.

We ask that you would please remove any flowers, crosses, stuffed toys, and ornaments that you would like to save from the grave sites by Monday, July 20, 2020.

In order to help mowing and weed eating, we are asking that you please use shepherd's hooks when placing flowers on the graves or vases that are located on the headstones.

The City Council passed an ordinance on July 6, 2020 that "All artificial flowers, ornaments or decorations that are placed in or on the ground in the city cemeteries may only be placed seven days prior to Memorial Day and must be removed seven days after Memorial Day or they will be removed by cemetery staff. "

Please share this information with other families who have loved ones buried in these Cemeteries.

Cemetery Director Roger Waters added that the new policy change will assist greatly with the efficiency of the mowing process at Crown Hill Cemetery on North Engineer, and the Hebrew Cemetery on South Grand.
