Britt Reid to Court on DUI Charge After Crash Involving 5 Yr Old Girl

Former Kansas City Chiefs' assistant coach Britt Reid will be in court on Thursday on a charge of driving while intoxicated charges.  Seven years in prison is the possible outcome for the felony charge.

The incident took place on February 4, just a few days before the Chief's appearance in the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, Florida.

The hearing will take place at 2 p.m. in Jackson County Circuit Court. Reid will appear remotely before Judge Jessica Agnelly.

In a story on kansascity.com, Reid was charged on April 12. In an April 14th story from kansascity.com, according to prosecutors, approximately two seconds before the collision Reid was not only driving over 83 mph but also "had a serum blood alcohol content of 0.113 about two hours after the crash."

The former Chiefs' linebacker coach admitted to police that he had been drinking. Court documents also stated that Reid's eyes were "red and bloodshot."

Everything took place on an exit ramp along I-435. Reid's crash injured two young  children. A traumatic brain injury was suffered by 5-year old Ariel Young. Since the crash a GoFundMe page, that was set up by the family, stated that "Young had swelling and bleeding in and around her brain and was in a coma for 11 days."

Reid was also injured in the crash. According to the kansascity.com article:

Reid suffered a groin injury and underwent emergency surgery.

After the accident Reid was placed on administrative leave and his contract expired was not renewed by the Chiefs.  After posting $100,000 bond, Reid was released from jail.
