Brandy Clark's upcoming Hee Haw musical is taking the long way around on its way to Broadway.

Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical will premiere in Dallas in September before opening on the Great White Way. The musical comedy, which is based loosely on the long-running TV series that blended country music and corny humor, was written by Clark and her frequent collaborator Shane McAnally.

The show is scheduled to run from Sept. 2 until Oct. 11 at the Dallas Theater Center, one of the leading regional theaters in the United States. Written by Robert Horn and directed by Gary Griffin, the show features 19 original songs from Clark and McAnally.

The story follows the adventures of Misty Mae, a small-town girl from Kornfield Kounty who goes to the big city to chase her dreams, and then brings her city slicker boyfriend home to meet her family.

"It's one big love story that takes two and a half hours, so you're telling little bits of the story but can't let too much unravel at once," Clark tells Rolling Stone Country of the writing process. "With Broadway, you can push the boundaries, so there's some pretty risque content."

Clark is nominated for Best Country Album at the upcoming 2015 Grammy Awards, as well as the all-genre category of Best New Artist.
