Boy, 6, to Play 100 Holes of Golf to Raise Money After Friend Dies of Cancer
A 6-year-old boy is going to take a swing at fighting cancer.
Ryan McGuire, of Foxboro, Mass., will attempt to play 100 holes of golf in one day in an attempt to raise money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in honor of his friend, who succumbed to pediatric cancer in April. It's called the Golf Fights Cancer's Golf Marathon.
Ryan hopes to raise $7,500 in memory of Danny Nickerson, his 5-year-old friend and kindergarten classmate (initially, he hoped to raise $2,500, but soared past that). At last check, he's brought in nearly $7,400, so his goal certainly looks like it can be achieved. Ryan says his goal is simple:
I want to help other people that have the exact same cancer as him."
The stunt will be even more personal for Ryan, since his grandfather, who survived prostate cancer, will serve as his caddy.
Ryan will hit the links for all 100 holes on June 17.
