Bothwell Regional Health Center and professors from the University of Central Missouri will partner to offer a free sports medicine clinic at Smith-Cotton High School on July 29.

According to a press release from BRHC, the clinic will provide information on how to best optimize the performance and health of student-athletes.

The sports medicine clinic will begin at 7:00 a.m in the S-C High Auditorium and last until about noon.

Speakers and professors at the clinic include; Dr. Evan Stout, Bothwell Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Dr. Brian Hughes and Molly Jennings from the athletic training program at UCM, Dr. Matthew Garver, assistant professor of exercise physiology at UCM, Dr. Swarna Mendali, professor of dietetics at UCM, Sarah Grupe, physical therapist at PEAK Sport and Spine in Sedalia, and Dr. Rick McGuire, director of the Missouri Institute for Positive Coaching.

Dr. Douglas Kiburz of Bothwell Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, is scheduled to emcee the clinic.

Several topics will be covered at the clinic, including concussions, strength training, dietary considerations, ACL injury prevention, and the influence of positive coaching on student-athletes.

“We’ve got a great group of speakers who have a lot of valuable information for anyone interested in getting the most out of student-athletes in terms of performance and health,” said Dr. Kiburz. “We’re going to pack a lot of useful material in a short span of time, and I hope area coaches, athletic trainers and others will take advantage of this opportunity to learn from our experts.”

The free clinic is sponsored by the Bothwell Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic and the UCM Athletic Training Program. Sedalia Laser Pain Center, Elite Orthopedics/Antrex, and Styker are also in support.
