Blood Donations to Red Cross Becoming Tradition at Local Sears
The American Red Cross mobile unit came from Columbia to Sedalia Saturday and set up in front of Sears in the Thompson Hills Shopping Center to collect blood from donors.
The event is a twice-a-year effort organized by Sears franchise owner Greg Johns.
“My son Josh and I own Sears, and I've been supporting Red Cross for 12 years or more. And I'm on the Red Cross board here, so once a year, we have a bake sale and then we have the blood drive to go with it on the last Saturday of August. And we'll have another blood drive here in April. It's been very successful today,” Johns said.
“We (the Pettis County chapter of American Red Cross) also have top-of-the line smoke alarms we're giving out, and we install them, for free,” Johns noted. Simply call the Red Cross at 827-0618 or any fire station.
It's just a good thing for the community, he noted, adding that some Thompson Hills employees also donated blood to the Red Cross.
Collection specialist Levi was one of four staffing the Red Cross mobile unit on Saturday, along with Tommy, Jordan and Sarah.
"We had a really good response today," Levi said, adding that the unit can accommodate four people on a bed, two people in history and four people waiting, he said.
