Two of the contestants on the current season of The Voice battled it out on Tuesday night (Oct. 18), turning in a hot performance of the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic "Bad Moon Rising."

CCR frontman John Fogerty wrote "Bad Moon Rising," which the band released as the lead single from the Green River album in April of 1969. The song reached No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart and No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in September 1969, scoring the group their second gold single.

It's been covered by a number of artists, ranging from Jerry Lee Lewis and Emmylou Harris to even Heart singer Ann Wilson, who invited Gretchen Wilson to join her on a cover in 2007. Team Blake members Austin Allsup and Preston James faced off on Tuesday, rendering a joint performance of "Bad Moon Rising" that lit up The Voice stage, but ultimately had to result in one of them going home.

Allsup and James gave a performance that challenged even the historically impressive voice of Fogerty, leaving everything they had — vocally and emotionally — on the stage of The Voice in one of the most important performances either one of them will ever face. But as with all battle rounds, there could be only one winner, which was the source of considerable debate on Tuesday night.

Miley Cyrus was not much help, first naming Allsup as the winner, then James, while Adam Levine was also unable to make a choice between the two singers, and ultimately Shelton — forced into the agonizing position of having to choose just one — picked Allsup, while James went home with a major feather in his musical and career cap.
