The Marshall Police Department welcomed a new member to their police force and she's a very good girl.

Meet Raven, a one-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer who is the department's new K-9 officer. She'll be partnered with Officer Waibel, who will also double as her handler. Officers Raven and Waibel have been in training and have completed the Basic K9 Handler Course at the Boone County Sheriff's Office K9 Training Center and are certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association and the Missouri Police Canine Association.

You may notice Raven looks different than a lot of K9 officers. She looks regal, serious, and has a beautiful speckled fur coat. Which is a little different than the look of the Belgian Malinois or German Shepherd which seem to be the breeds most frequently employed by police departments. But that doesn't mean, she or her breed, isn't suited to police work.

According to Canine Weekly, the German Shorthaired Pointer is one of the best police dog breeds and thrives "on positive training, vigorous exercise, and a lot of love." The article goes on to say the breed is known for its speed, endurance, power, and agility. And the breed is used all over the world by law enforcement. The dogs are good at tracking illegal substances and tracking evidence at crime scenes.

The Marshall Police Department's Facebook post says in addition to her K9 expertise, Raven will allow the department to interact with the public in new ways. Officer Raven is definitely a good girl!
