Spring is still a few months away as it lands this year on Thursday, March 19. For those of you ready for winter to be over with, we thought you'd like to be fully-loaded with facts and figures. Now you can amaze family and friends like never before!

The spring equinox (also called the March equinox or vernal equinox) begins at 11:50 P.M. EDT. This event marks the astronomical first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

Ever wonder what the term equinox means? The word equinox comes from Latin words which literally means “equal night”, i.e., aequus (equal) and nox (night). The length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world on the equinox. For many the equinox means being able to enjoy the increasing sunlight hours, with earlier dawns and later sunsets.

After the Spring equinox, the Northern Hemisphere tilts toward the Sun, which is why we start to get longer, sunnier days.

So get ready to enjoy the longer days of sunshine, and a big welcome to Spring 2020!
