Flags Ordered at Half-Staff Monday to Honor Fallen Officer

U.S. and Missouri flags across the state are ordered to be flown at half-staff on Monday, July 1, to honor fallen North County Police Cooperative Officer Michael Langsdorf.

The order was issued by Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe, on behalf of Governor Mike Parson, who is on an Economic Development tour in Europe.

On June 23, Officer Langsdorf was shot and killed after responding to a complaint about a bad check at a Wellston, MO business.

The Associated Press reports that prosecutors charged 26-year-old Bonette Kymbrelle Meeks with first-degree murder and three other crimes. Meeks is jailed without bond.

Langsdorf was a 40-year-old father of two. He was a longtime St. Louis city officer who had been with the police cooperative for just three months.

Before joining the North County Police Cooperative this year, Officer Langsdorf had served with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

“For 17 years, Michael Langsdorf patrolled the streets of the St. Louis area, confronting violence and taking risks so others could be safer and the community could be stronger,” Lt. Governor Kehoe said. “Since his tragic, senseless killing, we’ve learned about the impact one individual officer can have over a career – from helping save a toddler from a burning building to mentoring and guiding younger officers. We are all indebted to Michael Langsdorf, and we will always remember the difference he made for the St. Louis region.”

The flags will be held at half-staff on Monday, July 1, when Officer Langsdorf is laid to rest. The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled from noon - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30 at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary in St. Louis.
