2017 Golden Globes Nominations Announced, ‘La La Land’ and ‘The People v. O.J.’ Lead
Following Sunday night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, the Golden Globes nominations have arrived. On Monday morning, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced their nominees for the 2017 awards, recognizing the best in film and television.
La La Land (unsurprisingly) led the film category with seven nominations, include Best Motion Picture Comedy/Musical Best Actor and Actress, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Moonlight followed with six nominations, include two Supporting noms for Naomi Harris and Mahershala Ali, plus Best Director and a Best Motion Picture Drama. Some of the big surprises in film were Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals, which earned him a Best Director and Screenplay nomination, plus Best Supporting for Aaron Taylor Johnson (a big snub for Michael Shannon).
The pleasant surprises included a Best Picture Comedy/Musical nomination for Sing Street, a Best Actor Drama nom for Colin Farrell’s great turn in The Lobster, and a Supporting nom for Octavia Spencer in Hidden Figures. Oh, and Deadpool is nominated for two Golden Globes.
On the TV side of things, The People v. O.J. Simpson led with five nominations, followed by acclaim for The Crown, The Night Manager, The Night Of, and Westworld. A great surprise was Best Actress in a TV Comedy nom for Issa Rae in Insecure.
The 74th annunal Golden Globes will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon on January 8th at 8:00 p.m. ET. See the full list of 2017 Golden Globe nominees below:
