There's no doubt that one of the biggest local news stories of 2016 has been the fire that destroyed Sedalia's First United Methodist Church on the night of March 2. The fire was reported just before 10 p.m. that night, and it completely destroyed the 128-year-old church and knocked out power lines in the area. On YouTube, there are a couple of videos that show just how intense the fire was.

YouTube user mynamistooey posted the videos, which show the church engulfed in flames, in addition to firefighters' efforts to put out the blaze.

According to the Sedalia Democrat, B&P Excavating of Sedalia began work on Wednesday morning to remove debris from the First United Methodist Church site. Removal of stones, twisted metal, and steel from the property is expected to take at least two days.
