Young hunters and fisherman are invited to the J.A.K.E.S. event in Warrensburg. J.A.K.E.S. (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) is an outdoor program designed to help youth sharpen their outdoors skills.

The free event is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Stealth Gobblers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Lunch will be provided. The event will be held at 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the University of Central Missouri trap and skeet range in Warrensburg. The range is just west of 501 Road and Division Road.

The event is for youth ages eight to 17 and is a free event, but space is limited and pre-registration is required by Aug. 12. Adults must accompany youths ages 13 and under.

Activities will include trap shooting, shotgun patterning, game calling, archery, fishing and more. Shotguns and ammunition will be provided, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own guns and ammunition that they will use in the fall hunting season.
