The Major League Baseball Playoffs are here, and I'm sure there are many looking into the crystal ball to figure out which teams will win through the playoffs.  Logic says to compare how the teams did against each other in the regular season, or which team was hot down the stretch, or who has the best best pitchers or hitters.  These are all logical ways to predict winners, but it is baseball and anything can happen.  Just refer to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011 and you'll see logic may not have worked in predicting the winner as they defied the odds so many times.

A few months ago, I was cleaning out a box of stuff of mine.  Somehow I was able to save these gem of a game that my father gave me in 1986, called the Tomy Pocket Game for baseball.

Will This Game Hold The Key to Predicting the 2012 Major League Baseball Playoffs?

The game has had its fare share of wear and tear.  My brother could tell you that I sometimes would play whole seasons of baseball with this game.  I thought I had lost it, but once my son, Gabriel, asked if he could play with it after I found it, I've let him have it.

So he asked me to play with him today, and I thought we'd do something fun.  Let's play the Major League Baseball playoffs on this.  So we will begin today (October 5), with the St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves.  I am not expecting the scores to occur as high as they do on this game, but we'll see if the outcome proves right.

Gabriel got the right to pick his team first.  He went with the St. Louis Cardinals, so that gives me the Atlanta Braves.  The Atlanta Braves led early, but the St. Louis Cardinals bullpen saved the day in later innings and the bats of the Cardinals starting swinging away late.

The final score was St. Louis Cardinals 29, Atlanta Braves 28.  So based on this outcome, the Cardinals will advance in the Wild Card Game.

You can listen for the real game with the real game playing at 3:12 p.m., and the first pitch is at 4:07 p.m.

In case you're curious, we also did Texas vs, Baltimore, and the Orioles won by a score of 26 to 10.  We'll see Friday night if this works.  In the meantime, enjoy watching the playoffs.
